  • What breed of cattle?

  • How much space are you working with?

  • How many people usually work cattle with you?

  • Do you have a handling system currently in place?

  • If you have a system, will you make upgrades gradually or replace it all at once?

Understanding Your Operation’s Needs

Cattle Sorting

For increased efficiency and easier sorting, a Draft Pound is an excellent addition to any cattle corral. Unlike traditional straight alleyways, the Draft Pound works with natural cattle behavior to allow for smoother movement.

Building Around Cattle Behavior

3E Components

Arrowquip’s 3E technology uses light to help guide cattle through the system. From the barred head gates on the Arrowlock and Powerlock squeeze chutes to the adjustable panels on the Easy Flow Alley, you can be certain working cattle on your operation is low-stress and effortless.

Making Safety a Top Priority

Cattle-Free Handler Safety Zone

A cattle-free zone enhances safety through the system, so you have a place to go in case cattle get too rowdy. This cattle-free zone can also provide as a space for expensive equipment, such as an ultrasound machine, to remain out of your cattle’s path.

Working with Cattle's Instincts

Round Cattle Pen Designs

Round cattle pens help keep your operation efficient. By eliminating corners, your cattle don’t feel trapped which will greatly reduce stress. Rounded alleyways also work better with cattle’s natural behavior, helping guide them seamlessly through your system.

Testimonials

I contacted Arrowquip and worked directly with Ryan on the layout. I told him what I was looking to do and sent him some sketches. He drew up several drafts, and we went back and forth until we ended up with a system that would work the way I wanted it to and that would best fit our needs. Ryan even went out to the yard, took videos of different things and walked me through how they worked so I could decide what would work best.

Once the design was finalized, I built a shed around the setup to fit everything. Ryan had planned to help with installation, but due to Covid-19, he FaceTimed my team instead while we got everything in place.

I've used a lot of the Priefert panels before, and I like the connection point on the Arrowquip panels more than the chains that I've used on the Priefert's. Arrowquip's panels seem a little stouter too. I'm pleased with them so far.

Custom Cattle Handling System

It's bout time somebody designed and took the initiative towards better cattle handling! I have asked my brother and also friends to help me sort, doctor and load cattle. It has always ended up a major headache. I repeatedly have stressed " no yelling and using the hot spot are the last resorts" the cattle get stressed or flighty and that isn't good. This does the opposite!

Custom Cattle Corral System Design

Arrowquip has been a good investment for out vet operations at the sale barn. About 1500 head through it in the first 5 weeks with thousands to come in the fall runs. Crowding tub with 5 alley sections handles 6 large bred cows smoothly. Refill 6-7 more in the tub and they mostly follow in without having to walk back from chute to prod. Adjusting the alley is quick to process small calves as well.
Edit: we are now over 35,000 head through this setup and it’s working as good as day 1.

DEBUNKING CATTLE SYSTEMS MYTHS

Bigger isn’t always better. The best cattle handling system is one that’s designed to fit your herd size, your space, and the way you work cattle. A smaller, well-planned setup can often be safer, more efficient, and easier to manage than an oversized system.

While handling systems are an investment, the right one will quickly pay for itself through fewer injuries, improved cattle health, and time saved. For smaller operations, Arrowquip offers starter systems that are perfect for 10 – 20 head of cattle to help get your operation up and running safely and efficiently.

While curved alleys are popular, cattle move just as well in properly designed straight alleys. The real key is ensuring consistent flow, solid sides, and low-stress handling techniques, not just the shape of the alley.

No. Properly designed cattle equipment keeps cattle calm and secure without causing pain. Good handling equipment designs reduces stress and the risk of injury compared to handling cattle without equipment.

Cattle adapt quickly when facilities are designed with animal behavior in mind. With proper use, cattle will move through handling systems calmly and consistently, reducing stress over time.
