Assurance System Producer Rebate | Saskatchewan Farm Equipment Grants

The Assurance System Producer Rebate is a rebate available to beef cattle farmers and other livestock producers to improve animal welfare and biosecurity protocols on ranches in Saskatchewan. This rebate program makes VBP+ Certification more accessible by lowering the cost to receive certification, improving handling and biosecurity through practical education, supplying a rebate for veterinarian assessments, and providing funding to assist with new equipment upgrades.

How much funding can I receive through the Assurance System Producer Rebate?

The Assurance System Producer Rebate provides support to producers in two different streams. Eligible costs are supported at 50% to a maximum amount, depending on the stream of choice. Steps must be taken in the order outlined below to receive funding.

  • $2,500 for the Training Stream
    • Complete VBP+ Training
    • Have a veterinarian assessment and biosecurity/animal welfare and Equipment Recommendation Report completed.
    • The Recommendation Report must be completed before any equipment is purchased.
  • $15,000 for the Certification Stream Steps
    • Complete VBP+ Training
    • Have a veterinarian assessment and biosecurity/animal welfare and Equipment Recommendation Report completed.
    • COmplete the VBP+ Audit and achieve VBP+ Certification
    • Have a veterinarian assessment completed.
    • The Recommendation Report must be completed before any equipment is purchased.

What is the maximum VBP+ Audit Rebate?

The VBP+ Audit rebate is a maximum of $625 for cow-calf operations, $875 for backgrounding operations and $1,000 for feedlot operations. Program payments are subject to a minimum rebate of $250.

What is the maximum Veterinarian Assessment Rebate?

The Veterinarian Assessment Rebate is a maximum of $500, and may include multiple or follow-up assessments, if necessary.

What is the maximum program rebate?

The maximum rebate for all training, assessments, audit, and equipment is $15,000 for the Certification Stream, and $2,500 for the Training Stream.

What is the minimum program rebate?

The minimum program rebate is $250.

How do I know if I am eligible for the Assurance System Producer Rebate?

You are eligible to apply for the rebate if:

  • You are a producer of beef cattle located in Saskatchewan;
  • You are 18 years of age or older;
  • You report a minimum of $50,000 in gross farm income in the year of application or the year prior to; and
  • You have a Saskatchewan Premises Identification number; and
  • You have completed the required VBP+ training or certification steps

Is there anything I need to do before I apply?

  • Complete the industry-specific training with VBP+;
  • Have an assessment completed by an approved assessor in your sector; and
  • Complete the VBP+ Audit, complete VBP+ Certification, and have a veterinary assessment completed, including the Equipment Recommendation Report.

What types of equipment are eligible for the equipment portion of the Assurance System Producer Rebate?

Many varieties of livestock handling and biosecurity protocol equipment are eligible, including but not limited to:

  • Squeeze chutes
    • Portable or stationary
    • Manual or hydraulic, including power pack
    • Extra restraints and add-ons including head holder, sternum bar, palp cage
    • Head gate if purchased standalone
  • Loading chutes
    • Metal
    • Portable or stationary
    • Adjustable
  • Alleyways
    • Any variety
    • Metal
  • Cattle Tubs
    • Metal
    • All sizes
  • Calving/Maternity Pen
    • 10' x 10' or 10' x 12' with head gate
    • Metal Panels

Equipment is rebated at 50% of cost to a maximum, where indicated.

What is the deadline for the Assurance System Producer Rebate?

Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis. All claims must be received by December 31, 2022.
